Sustainable Pest Management

Urban Habitat, LLC uses Integrated Pest Management (IPM) to minimize pesticide usage. IPM relies upon monitoring to determine pest-caused injury levels and the use of a variety of less toxic methods of pest control. To minimize usage, IPM uses a combination of:

  • Biological controls (i.e. natural enemies or predators).
  • Physical or mechanical controls (i.e. hand labor or mowing).
  • Inspection and adjustments made to all components of your sprinkler system, with broken sprinklers and lines repaired immediately.
  • Cultural control (i.e. mulching, aerating, or alternative plant type selection such as pest-resistant plants).
  • Reduced risk chemical controls (i.e. soaps or oils).

The IPM method uses the least hazardous biodegradable pesticides , only as a last resort for controlling pests. Usage is also kept to a minimum by targeting specifically the areas in need, never using the “blanket-apply” method.
